Citadel provides a free virtual private network (VPN) as an optional layer of protection for customers who want to obscure their IP address from third parties and encrypt traffic between their device and our VPN gateways.
The service uses the WireGuard® protocol, widely recognised for performance and security. Configuration files are distributed only from your authenticated account area to prevent public scraping.

No traffic logging

Why WireGuard
WireGuard combines state-of-the-art cryptography (Curve25519, ChaCha20, Poly1305, BLAKE2s) with a minimalist codebase that is easier to audit than legacy VPN stacks.
Official clients exist for iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux. After downloading a profile from your Citadel account, import it in seconds and toggle the tunnel whenever you need protection.
Getting started in three steps
- Sign in to Citadel — Create your player account or log in with your existing credentials. VPN downloads require authentication to keep configs off the open web.
- Open Account → VPN (WireGuard) — Pick the region or profile that matches your needs, then download the .conf file. Each file is signed by our provisioning pipeline.
- Import into WireGuard and connect — Use the official WireGuard app, add a tunnel from the file, approve the VPN permission, and activate the tunnel. Disconnect when you return to a trusted network.

- Is the VPN really free?
- Yes. Active Citadel players can download WireGuard profiles at no extra charge. We reserve the right to enforce fair-use limits if automated abuse impacts network quality.
- Do you keep logs of websites I visit?
- We operate a no-traffic-log policy on the VPN relays. Limited operational metrics (e.g. bandwidth load) may exist but are not sold and are not used to build browsing histories.
- How many devices can connect?
- You may configure every personal device you own. Commercial resale, botnets, or tunnel sharing with strangers violates policy and may lead to suspension.
- Can I use another VPN client?
- Profiles are tested with official WireGuard software. Third-party clients that speak the WireGuard protocol may work but are unsupported.
- What if I lose my config file?
- Sign in again and download a fresh copy from Account → VPN (WireGuard). Revoked files stop working immediately.
